the start of summer

Well, it has been a little too long since I have updated my blog. So, here is a marathon run down of everything that I have done since Easter. Now that it is summer time, I am hoping to have not only more time to bake but to blog as well! May has been full of events/ Several weddings, showers and graduations. Above are some petit fors I made for my friend Karen's wedding shower. I was in her wedding two weeks ago, and it was so much fun to see her get married!

This brithday cake was for a suprise party for one of the sweet women who goes to church with me. She makes 80 look like the new 20.
Cookies for Natalie and Greg's couples shower. We went to thier wedding over memorial day weekend. They got married at the Hazelhurst House in McDonough, which was a beautiful venue for a beautiful wedding.
Smash cakes and birthday cake for a set of twins. The mother ordered a smash cake for thier party and thier photo shoot.
Cupcakes for a horse themed baby shower. (sorry the pic is sideways, i forgot to flip it beofre I uploaded it)
Cowboy cupcakes for my nephew William's end of the year party.
And last, flowers for Grace's graduation.

Happy Birthday Caroline (part deux)

It has been a busy couple of days. On top of work and school, the kitchen has been through several cycles of mess up clean up. I did a firetruck cake for a baby shower, and the birthday cake for Caroline's party. Caroline's mom gave me one of the plates that she was going to use for the party, and we used that as our inspiration for the cake design.

give away winner

Awhile back, Shannon D. won the giveaway that I did in November. She was a hostess for a baby shower this past weekend, and she claimed her giveaway cookies for the shower. I some new cookie cutters with a baby theme, and I was happy to be able to use them!
This was the second smash cake of the weekend. It was for, yet another, photo shoot with Cindy.

Ice Cream Smash Cake

Here is a smash cake I did for a one year old photo shoot. I was told that there was an ice cream theme for, and the little girl's aunt had this super cute cake plate made. When I find out who did it, I will post details. So, I just recreated what was on the cake plate on the cake.

My poor neglected blog :(

So, it has been a really long time since I have updated my blog. Life has gotten crazy, but I still have some projects to show! Above are some cookies I did to celebrate the birth of Carolina Grace Cordova. I am so excited for her parents and grandparents! I know it will be fun to watch this little one grow up.
Above is a birthday cake. It is strawberry cake, strawberry cream cheese icing with gumpaste daises.

Baby Shower Day

Today, I went to two baby showers. I have been working on my gifts for the past week, and now I can post my projects because everyone has seen their gifts!
For my friend Julie, I made two pillow case dresses in UGA and USC colors. Carolina's parents have two favorite teams, so I couldn't show any bias :) Mimi was a great help (again) and did the monogramming for me.

The next shower was for a friend that just had twins. Madelyn and Kendall's mom loves riding, so I picked out a bandanna pattern for their dresses. Last weekend, I had some of the girls from the youth group over to tie dye (we bought shirts in belize),and I used this as an opportunity to try some onesies. Here are some pictures of those.

A friend of mine had her daughter's 1st birthday over the weekend, and the birthday girl loves strawberries. So, I made strawberry cupcakes with fondant strawberries and flowers.

cakes for babies

A while back, Cindy Stansberry at Stansberry photography asked me if I would be interested in doing some smash cakes for the one year old shoots that she does. This cake is our first "collaboration." I can't wait to see the results of her shoot. Cindy is an amazing photographer, and I love looking through all of her pictures. You can check out her work here, and become a fan on facebook!

My brother had a baby in June. They were in town recently and we had Pearl's rescheduled baby shower while they were passing through to get to their new Coast Guard post in North Carolina. Here is the cake I did for Pear'ls party.

Welcome Ella!

Yesterday, Nat and Shannon Dougthie (along with 2 very excited sets of families) welcomed their daughter, Ella, into the world. Shannon asked me to make sugar cookie to hand out to guests as they come to visit their new addition to the family! Think of it as a new twist on the cigar :) I got to deliver them to the hospital this morning, and I had a great visit with the new mom, baby and grandparents.

Week Four

Tonight, I am feeling a little bit proud that I have kept my resolution for four whole weeks. This has definitely outlived any other resolution I have made for myself. Maybe if I posted my weight or bank account balance on a blog, I would have some motivation to be frugal and work out! I have heard the statistic that says it takes 21 days to make a habit; however, I am wondering if something I do only one day a week takes 21 days or will I know I have made this a habit once I have made it to 21 weeks?

This week's project was cupcakes made to look like baby rattles. (OK, I know you are sitting there thinking you are sick of looking at pictures of cupcakes, and soon I promise I am going to branch out.) But, my mom asked me to make these for a baby shower that she was hosting with her bell choir for a girl that we all go to church with. I found the idea on the Betty Crocker website. The only adjustment that I made was to use marshmallows as the end of the rattle. Their recipe called for gum drops. Do you have any idea how hard it is to find gumdrops when it is not Christmas?? I thought for SURE I would be able to find Valentines colored ones. But I think the pink marshmallows (which tasted like strawberry, and they were delicious.) gave them the same effect.

Week Two

For my week two project, I made a dress for Caroline Powers. It is pink corduroy with little pink flower buttons. I can't wait to see her wear it.
Here are a few things that are in the works for the next couple of weeks. Sunday, I am super excited to be using my Christmas gift from mom and dad by taking my first decorating class at the Viking Store in Atlanta. So, I will be posting pictures of the results of this soon. I have also had some orders for cupcakes for people to serve at some showers.
As some of you know, I teach at a private school here in Griffin. I told my Latin class about my project and they have been working hard to keep me from procrastinating. So, I also want to thank my students at Grace for making sure that I stay on task. Everyday, they ask me what new thing I have made. I am sure that part of it is that they want me to bring the leftovers from when I bake, but they have been working hard to keep me accountable!
