Happy Easter!

On friday, we had a birthday party for my friend Elizabeth. Above is a sample of one of the table arrangements that the other Elizabeth and I worked on.
We had a Derby theme for the party, so of course I had to make a hat shaped cake!
For probably ten years, my parents have hosted an Easter Brunch at their house. This tradition started with a Martha Stewart recipe for grits and greens. What started out as family and a few friends has grown into quite a large party.  I had to take a picture of the table with all the delicious food!

more birthdays and prom 2011

Above is a smash cake I did for another Cindy Stansberry photo session (make sure you check her out on facebook and like her page!). The pics from the session turned out great!
I did this cake for a combined 30th birthday/college reunion for an old friend who I went all the way from elementary to high school with. eek, i can't beleive we are all turning 30 :)
Friday night, we had prom at Grace Academy. It was a lot of hard work, but it was all worth it went I saw my students dressed up having a good time. About a week ago, I realized that prom was the night before I had to get up and take the math GACE. Needless to say, I had to leave early so I could get home and go to bed :( Above is a sample of the flowers I did, and when the photographer gets me the images I will post some more pics!

Busy Busy week

Here are some pics from the week~
Yesterday, we not only got to celebrate at a great 30th birthday party, but I got the do the cake as well!
Football birthday cake for a friend from church's son. Little Damon celebrated his 10th yesterday, and he made my day when he called me and told me how much he liked his cake!

Here is a mini van cake (well, I think it looks more like a VW bus than minivan, but i guess its all in the interpretation). Another friend of mine from church's son was celebrating his third birthday, and apparently the little guy loves mini vans. I am still pretty new to basic decorating, and trying out a 3d cake was totally new. But, the more i worked on this cake, the more it grew on me.

On Friday, I conducted my last meeting as president of the Utility Club. I didn't think that it would make me emotional, but I did tear up just a bit. I was really excited to pass the gavel on! It was a lovely meeting, and the club is lucky to be inviting 6 wonderful new women as active members. Below are the corsages I made for the new ladies.

Utility Club Past President's Tea

As some of you may know, I am the current Utility Club president. We are a local women's group that dates back to 1927. We do community service with several organizations around Griffin, donate money, give scholarships to local students, and publish a cook book The Stuffed Griffin. I have a been a member since I moved back to Griffin in 2005. Every other year, the current president hosts a tea for all the past presidents. The oldest past president had her 96th birthday on Saturday, so it was neat to get to celebrate that in addition to the past presidents. Mimi Johnson was kind enough to offer to host this even at her house. Here are some pictures

Here are the invitations. I made little tea envelopes for the invitation.

Here is the cake. It was chocolate with cream cheese icing. I tried a new brush technique to do the flowers.

Below are some of the flower arrangements I did for the tables. I picked up most of the flowers at Sam's club. It was a great weekend to buy pretty spring flowers because of mother's day.Thankfully, my roses were going crazy so I was able to use some of those as well.

week 17

I am going to have to break this post up into several, because we all know what a formatting genius I am. I had 4 deiliveries to make today, and they werent small, either! This has been a crazy week between class, work, baking, and finalizing some decor details for a wedding in two weeks. I am ready for a vacation!
Delivery #1- Dessert for 75. For this Mexican themed wedding shower (the hosts had El Durango cater- YUM) I made Mexican wedding cookies, key lime mini cupcakes, and kahlua brownies with browned butter icing. No pics of the cookies- oops!

Master's 2010

April in Georgia means many things, and probably one of the most famous events is the Master's Tournamnet. I am not a golfer, but I saw the idea for this project in one of my new books. So, I thought it was appropriate for this time of year. The Historical Society here in Griffin hosted a Master's party, and I called a friend that was going to see if I could make these for her to take. I really wanted to go, but the night they held it, I was barely able to make it from class to the Utility Club meeting.

Shannon's Baby Shower

Here are some pictures of the shower. I had such a great time planning this with the other hostesses: Sarah, Kay Christine, Liz, and Elizabeth. It made it so easy to plan with such a group of such accomplished hostesses! We were also lucky to be able to use the Bailey Tebault House as a venue.

Here is another picture of the cake. This was the first time I had ever done a stacked tier cake. Like everything else, this was a learning experience. I learned not to stack the tiers before the cake gets where it is going. Brian talked me into setting it up the night before, and I will admit I was anxious to see it finished! I thought that it looked straight in the kitchen the night before, but I felt like it had a lean by the time it got to the BT house. This was also the first cake I had ever done with a pattern transfer. I took the material Shannon has in her nursery and used part of that for the bottom layer of the cake. I traced the pattern in royal icing and Brian helped me stick that on the cake. I am going to work on perfecting this method for the next go round. Below are some more pictures from the actual shower. I am having a difficult time getting this post to format so that the text is by the picture. So, as you scroll down, here is a run down of what you are looking at. 1) All the great food that all the hostesses contributed 2) flower arrangement that Liz and I worked on 3) the guests put their gifts on the piano in the foyer of the house4) we used bibs and onesies as decoration on the two fireplaces. Mimi Johnson did the monogramming, so a big thanks to her!
